Should The Cat Come? Where To Leave Your Cat During Vacation

Vacations in America are common during the summer months when the kids are out of school. The family cat(s), however, will require some type of care while you are gone. The question before vacation then becomes: Should you take them along or should you leave them home? Following are some tips to help you decide whether or not to take your cat with you and the best way to leave your cat behind.

Should the Cat Come Along?

The answer to this question depends on how well your pet responds to vehicle rides, any restrictions at the place where you will be staying and whether your pet has health problems. If you don't mind the extra work a pet will entail during your vacation and if your pet is comfortable with road and/or air trips, you may want to consider taking her along to places such as Red River Gorge Cabin Rentals.

Leave the Cat at Home

Cats are creatures of habit and may become fidgety or restless if their schedule is upset or changed. For this reason, many people choose to leave their cats at home rather than take them to a boarding center.

Is Your Cat Comfortable Alone?

Some cats will become extremely depressed if they are left at home alone for an extended period of time. Even if you have a friend come to check on the cat and ensure that it has the food and water it needs, your cat could still suffer from loneliness and anxiety, especially if it is the only cat in your home.

To help your cat cope while at home alone, consider employing the services of a professional pet sitter. A pet sitter will come to your home at a specific time of day to ensure that your pet has the water and food she needs. Pet sitters can also spend a pre-specified amount of time with your pet as a way to provide the attention the cat needs. You could also ask a friend or family member to check on your cat as a favor, but keep in mind that professional pet sitters are trained for this job and may be more successful at keeping them stable.

The Boarding Center

Pet boarding centers are places where pets can be cared for while their owners are away. They often provide custom care to the cat with special dietary needs.  A boarding center is an ideal option for the more outgoing cat and can provide you with peace of mind while enjoying your cabin rental or sightseeing.
